Oh what a 'bumper' show that was! As I mention at the start of the show not enough tracks recently, so there are an amazing sixteen in this show. I honestly believe that in terms of musical selection it's one of the best shows I've ever done, many styles were covered and all the music was quality. It was a lot of work, but here it is for your enjoyment:
There's More To Music 14/05/2008 show recording
The show is completely unedited, but any mistakes were quite minor (though annoyingly still present!) Definitely the saddest thing is the low quality of the above file. I would certainly not recommend illegal downloading (directly) while on the show, but on the blog I can definitely say that an mp3 of these songs would sound much better... Then again my talking between the songs is half the fun, and while I feel I can still improve the general flow of my language, I'm not as bad as I was when I started.
Here's the tracklist (artist - title):
Hellogoodbye - All of your Love
Phish - Farmhouse
Nine Inch Nails - Lights in the Sky
Robert Johnson - Hellhound on my Trail
Johannes Brahms - Hungarian Dance no. 20 in E minor, poco allegreto [performed by the London Festival Orchestra]
BitBasic - Amen Break Steals the Show (listen to it for free on last.fm)
Napalm Death - Scum
J. J. Cale - Cocaine
Boards of Canada - Roygbiv
Art Blakey (quintet) - Once in a While
The Flashbulb - La Tristesse Durera Toujours
Ilkae - Orange Line
Ilkae - Sink Lateral
Ochre - A Midsummer Nice Dream
Common - I Used to Love H.E.R.
Oasis - Songbird (which I forgot to mention at the time)
I received an email concerning what the 'Amen Break' was, and there is no better explanation than this thought-provoking documentary on Youtube.
A more tasty selection there is not! Enjoy it!
(Oh, and I shall endeavour to post TMTM #2 this weekend, so look out for that.)

[Show #13] There's More To Music 07/05/2008
If you're chancing upon this page before the show has aired.. I strongly reccomend you read the following page, it is one of the best articles I have ever read, explaining a subject we will be discussing tomorrow in depth.
Go to Imperfect Sound Forever.
----
Well the show went really well, thanks to all who emailed in their opinions and comments: it really helps the hour flow (and keeps me happy!)
Listening back to the show I was dissapointed, but not surprised, to find that CUR1350 does strongly compress the music before sending it out; the second track I played should actually be much quiter in the quiet passages and much louder in the loud passages.
Hopefully none of you were too confused by some of the technical terms I may have (mis-)used, or by the variety of points raised. Here are some more links about the loudness war and compression. Most of these come from Wikipedia anyway, but they are all worth reading, and Wikipedia has many more good links to check out.
Honestly, the Imperfect Sound Forever article is the best, and helped inspire 'The Destruction of Small Ideals'.
A brilliant Youtube explanation of the loudness war.
Over the Limit is a bit more visual and has some numerical data to back up the facts.
More numerical data and pictures, along with a downloadable program and a hall of fame and shame from CuteStudio Ltd.
The Future of Music explains how historically the loudness war came about with the advent of CDs.
Declaring an end to the loudness wars is a slightly shorter article.
What Happened To Dynamic Range? is an article not written by a fan complaining, but by a mastering engineer himself.
Like I said, all very interesting, but borderline pointless because of the compression and low bitrates that the following recording has gone through...
There's More To Music 07/05/2008 show recording
The show is completely unedited, sadly I had to cut off the end of Parenthood. The noise track is there in full...
Here's the tracklist (artist - title):
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With The Flow
65daysofstatic - Music Is Music as Devices Are Kisses Is Everything
Iggy Pop & The Stooges - Raw Power
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
Beirut - Nantes
Prurient - Apple Tree Victim
Justice - DVNO
kid606 - Parenthood
Erik Satie - Gymnopédie III [La troisième gymnopédie]
If you have any more opinions on anything discussed this show don't hesitate to leave a comment, or send me an email during the next show. Enjoy!

[Show #12] There's More To Music 30/04/2008
Sorry I took a while to upload this one guys, but here it is: a rather poppy edition of There's More To Music. Basically I didn't have a long time to plan it, and so played a bunch of stuff from this old folder in my computer. Not the most fascinating show ever I'll give you that, and maybe the poor email response was deserved..
There's More To Music 30/04/2008 show recording
The show is completely unedited, so there is a period of two minutes where I'm just waffling, mainly repeating what I've already said. In my defence it would have worked out perfectly had I had more listener input.
Here's the tracklist (artist - title):
Daft Punk - Something About Us
CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings
Jazzanova - Another New Day
Air - The Vagabond
Mylo - Wolves of Miami
Tom Petty - Runnin' Down A Dream
Franz Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 [extract performed by The Baby Einstein Music Box Orchestra]
blink-182 - Adam's Song
Michel Fugain - Une Belle Histoire
Galleon - So I Begin
Listening through the recording it occurs to me that the quality sounds quite poor. Hopefully you'll still enjoy the recording, and tune in on Wednesday for a hardcore show!
